SPRINGFIELD —The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced grants to area communities to assist in taking a complete lead water service line inventory. The Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act requires cities in Illinois to submit a complete water service line material inventory by April 2024. Peru was awarded $50,000, and LaSalle and Oglesby each will receive $40,000. The Bureau County community of Sheffield was also awarded $24,110 to fund a survey of what types of water lines are currently being used to deliver drinking water to residents.

“This funding will provide many communities with the necessary funding to develop a complete inventory identifying the types of water lines that exist in their drinking water supplies,” said Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director John J. Kim.
